'Belief and Metaphysics': Conference Feedback

Dear Conor,

In the first place, my thanks for a magnificently organized colloquium. I am afraid that you must be dead tired and barely capable of starting a new academic year, but know that we have all enormously appreciated your work accomplished with such exceptional modesty.

Louis Dupre

Dear Conor,

Thanks to you and Msgr Martinez for putting on such a wonderful gathering.

David Burrell

Dear Conor,

I probably should have sent you this message a while ago, but I felt funny about it because we never really met or talked at the conference. But I really should have let you know earlier how stimulating and enjoyable and exciting the conference was for me. The work of "radical orthodoxy" has sort of taken over my mind, in the last two years, in a way that is for me unprecedented. All of my thinking about literary theory (I am a poetry scholar) and religion (I was raised Jewish) have been turned upside down. It is quite thrilling, and my participation in the conference really helped me to see (even more clearly) how my work and ideas can find their appropriate context in the ongoing effort to use theology to redefine (and re-unite) the political, the aesthetic, the scientific, and all of the other spuriously autonomous "disciplines" of secular reason. So thanks a lot for including me in the conference. The whole thing was a great pleasure; it was a truly impressive event. I do hope we can meet and talk more in the future.

Sincerely,
Gabriel Alkon

Dr. Cunningham,

This is a little late coming, but I just wanted to thank you for inviting me to participate in the conference in Granada in September. I really enjoyed myself, both in hearing the wonderful presentations, and in less academic socializing. I know how hard it is to pull something like this off, but you managed to put the whole thing together incredibly well. It was a privilege to be a part of it.

Sincerely,

Jim Slagle

Dear Conor
Thanks a million for a lovely conference. Brilliant work! I enjoyed it even more than last year’s, which was a difficult feat for you to pull off because last year’s was good as well. Though Granada really, really out did Nottingham… I will try to make next year’s no matter where it is. Keep me posted on the topics if you can.

Rest up!
Peace
Jeff

Dear Conor,

Hope you're fully rested from the organisation of such a wonderful conference. Thank you very much for enabling me to participate in the event - there were so many excellent papers (I very much enjoyed your one on Darwin - when is the book due out?).

Do let me know about future conferences organised by the centre. Also, please thank John Milbank for his encouraging words regarding my work.

Hello, Conor! Thanks so much again for a wonderful experience. I think the conference must be rated as one of the best Catholic intellectual events of the year.

Conor,

Just a word of thanks to you and your team for all the hard work you did putting together a great conference. It was a pleasure to take part in stimulating conversations, to catch up with friends, and to hear new ideas presented. The food was excellent, the lodging hospitable, and the surroundings inspiring.

I'm already looking forward to next year, wherever you decide to have it.

All the best,

Jeff

Hello Conor,

Just wanted to say hey, and thanks again for including me in this years conference. It was by far one of the best conferences I've been to. You guys have a really good thing going. Not just academically (your paper and project on evolution seem very promising), but also there is a genuine warmth and inclusiveness about the community of scholars there.

I was deeply impressed with it all.

Best wishes,

Tim Stanley,

Dear Conor,

Thanks a lot for a splendid conference! Sorry I was so out of it. That stomach thing kept coming back and even on the last day I was wiped out. As I lay in my sick bed the sound of wild laughter from below suggested everyone else felt it had been a success also...
